Family Dentistry in North Port, FL

One dentist for every member of your household.

Managing dental care for a whole household is simpler when everyone sees the same dentist. At McCartney Dental, Dr. McCartney is the only dentist, and he has been since 2013. The person who examines one family member is the person who examines all of you, at every visit. He gets to know your family's history, and you don't have to start over with someone new each time.

What We Treat

Care for Every Stage

  • Cleanings and exams. Professional cleanings plus a full exam, with periodontal charting and an oral cancer screening.
  • Fillings and repairs. Treatment for cavities, chips, and cracks before they turn into bigger problems.
  • Restorative care for parents and grandparents. Crowns, bridges, root canals, dentures, and implant restorations.
  • Emergency visits. If someone in your family is in pain or cracks a tooth, call and we'll get them in as quickly as we can.
  • Children and teens. We see patients of all ages, including young children. Services for kids include cleanings, fluoride treatments, fillings, and simple extractions. Whether we continue treating a child in our office or refer to a pediatric specialist depends on the child's dental needs and comfort level.

If anyone in the family needs care outside what we treat here, we'll tell you plainly and refer you to a specialist we trust.

What to Expect

Each new patient starts with a full new-patient exam: full-series X-rays, complete periodontal charting, an oral cancer screening, intraoral photos, and a cavity check. It takes longer than a routine cleaning because it's supposed to. Afterward, Dr. McCartney explains what he found in plain language.

For patients under 18, a parent or guardian is required to be present at the visit. Exceptions may be considered after the first visit on a case-by-case basis. Please bring a completed Parental Permission form, available on our New Patient Forms page.

Back-to-back family appointments are available. Please note that if cancellations become a recurring issue, this option may be revoked.

Insurance and Cost

We accept most insurance plans, including Aetna, MetLife, Delta Dental, Ameritas, Humana, Guardian, Cigna, and Mutual of Omaha. Before each family member's first visit, we verify their benefits and explain what's covered.

No insurance? We offer discounts on exams, cleanings, and restorative services for patients paying out of pocket, and we accept CareCredit (subject to credit approval).

Most patients do well with a cleaning and exam twice a year. Some need more frequent visits, and Dr. McCartney will tell you if that applies to anyone in your family.

Highly recommended. Moved to the area and was hoping to find a private dental practice like I was previously seeing. The team is very welcoming, helpful and especially knowledgeable when dealing with insurance companies. Dr McCartney took the time to explain everything to keep my teeth healthy. Signing up my whole family.
